Security Presence Heavy at Rivers APC Governorship Primary

There is a heavy security presence at the Rivers All Progressives Congress governorship primary holding at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt.

Armored tanks, sniffer dogs, and policemen are positioned at the entrance and strategic locations of the stadium to ward off any breach of the peace.

The security beef-up may not be unconnected to the shooting that characterized the recent protest at the party’s state secretariat in Port Harcourt.

Meanwhile, at 12 noon, the main bowl of the stadium was still empty as delegates are sparingly strolling in after going through security checks

Our correspondent also reports that people, including journalists, are subjected to security frisking, as nobody is allowed to go into the venue with food, drinks, and water.

Governorship aspirants who were screened by APC to contest in the primary are:

  1. Tonye Cole
  2. Bernard Mikko
  3. Ojukaye Flag Amachree
  4. Sekonte Davies
  5. Ibinabo Michael West
  6. Magnus Abe.

Meanwhile, Senator Abe and his supporters pulled out of the contest earlier today, according to a statement deposed to by chief Tony Okocha, former chief of staff, Ribeyts State Government House, and presently South-South coordinator, Bola Ahmed Tinibu Vanguard.
